A Cobb County father described the moments where he said a man tried to kidnap his daughter in a Town Center mall bathroom to Channel 2 Action News on Friday.
"He grabbed her and pulled her to him and held her with one arm and then took the other hand and put a knife up to her throat,” the father, who asked to not be named, told Channel 2. “He told her to be quiet and begun to cover her mouth while she screamed."
His daughter was able to break free and run out of the bathroom, the father told Channel 2.
Danzell Mitchell, 26, was arrested by Cobb County police Tuesday for allegedly attacking the 11-year-old girl. Mitchell was tackled and restrained by shoppers while attempting to escape, police said.
He faces charges of aggravated assault, attempted kidnapping and first-degree cruelty to children, police said. Police told Channel 2 he has a criminal record.
The father told Channel 2 that he believes Mitchell had a female accomplice who he communicated with non-verbally.
“There was gestures being made ... hand signals and nodding to one another back and forth,” the father told the station.
The father has met with a police sketch artist to describe the woman in the effort to help police find her, Channel 2 reported.
