Timothy Madden, 38, was charged with the kidnap, rape, sodomy and murder of Gabriella "Gabbi" Doolin.

The judge entered a not guilty plea for Madden and said his case was eligible for the death penalty. Bond was set at $1 million in cash.

"Investigators collected a DNA swab and clothing and used biological evidence to link Timothy Madden to the death of 7-year-old Gabbi Doolin, according to Madden's arrest citation," according to a local report.

The girl disappeared at a little league game she was attending. Her body was found about 30 minutes after she disappeared in a creek or pond behind the school where the game was played.

Investigators collected DNA evidence from Madden the day after the girl was found dead, according to the report.

Shortly after Madden's arrest, a report cited a source who said the suspect was sitting near the family of Gabriella Doolan the night of her disappearance. The source said Madden was from the area, has five children and attended high school with the victim's father.

Madden's wife and father-in-law spoke out after his arrest. His wife, Jodi Madden, said her husband was identified as a suspect within hours but "he's not that kind of person."

Madden also gave an interview on camera from jail, proclaiming his innocence.
