A man who was under the influence of narcotics lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a parked police cruiser in northwest Atlanta, authorities said.

Just after 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, the patrol car was struck in the 500 block of Griffin Street, Atlanta police said. The officer was not inside the vehicle at the time and was not injured.

Officers found the suspect, who “appeared to be barely alert or conscious,” Officer Anthony Grant said. Narcotics were allegedly recovered from inside his vehicle. Neither the specific drugs nor the amount of drugs seized were released.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he will remain in police custody. His condition was not provided.

Grant said charges are pending.
