Gwinnett County police are searching for a driver who seriously injured a motorcyclist last week before leaving the scene.

The hit-and-run occurred about 6:45 a.m. June 10 at the intersection of Duluth Highway and Sugarloaf Parkway in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said Thursday in a news release.

According to police, a red or maroon Ford Mustang struck the Kawasaki motorcycle while making a right turn from Duluth Highway onto Sugarloaf Parkway.  The biker, 30-year-old Kelby Smith, was pushed across several lanes and was partially ejected from the motorcycle, according to a Gwinnett police incident report.

Following the crash, witnesses said the driver of the older model Mustang sped off toward I-85. According to police, the Mustang has black stripes on its side and front-end damage from the crash.

Smith was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gwinnett detectives at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward by calling Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
