An Acworth woman is charged with animal cruelty after police accused her of leaving her dog in a car for four hours, leading to its death.

Tanya Lee Kuhlman was arrested after police found the animal in the unattended car in the Target parking lot in the 3300 block of Cobb Parkway, according to police spokeswoman Cpl. Youlanda McIntosh.

Officers broke the window of the car to get to the unresponsive dog, she said. Officials took the dog to an animal hospital, where it was pronounced dead.

Kuhlman was taken to the Acworth Detention Facility, McIntosh said.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Acworth police at (770) 974-1232.
