The animal control group posted to Facebook on Friday that it was looking for the owner. A call eventually led to the owner and police investigated.

The owner told police that after the dogs got into a fight he decided to dispose of them and shot both dogs, animal control officers said.

Authorities said the owner took the dogs from the home, drove them to a nearby dump and shot them, killing the first dog. The surviving dog was shot multiple times. It was treated and is now in foster care.

Charges against the owner are pending.
