“They haven’t moved out,” Capt. Kirk McLeroy of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 2 Action News, “but they vacated the property when we came and have not returned.”

The body found is believed to be that of Montez Watson, who went missing from Walton County in February. However, the body has not been positively identified.

Investigators are treating the case as a homicide, Channel 2 reported last week.

While the dig was taking place in Barrow County, officials searched the house in Walton County where Watson once lived.

Damien Mercer of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office called the house a “crime scene” that “may be connected” to the body found in Barrow County.

Officials told Channel 2 at the time they were searching for evidence such as blood, clothing, weapons as well as signs of a struggle.

As for the missing couple, McLeroy said: “It would be in their best interest to turn themselves in. Because what we want to do is get justice for the family.”

Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call Barrow County sheriff’s Investigator Chandler at 770-307-3080, ext. 3977.
