A former North Georgia deputy and probation officer was arrested Tuesday on three child molestation charges in Pickens County, authorities said.

Gaylon Earl Mathews, 57, of Jasper, was booked into the county’s jail on two counts of aggravated child molestation and one count of child molestation, according to jail records.

The GBI obtained the warrants for Mathews’ arrest, which accuse him of molesting a child younger than 16 years old. The incidents took place between November and December in 2014 and between March 15 and April 15 in 2015, according to the warrants.

His certification is suspended for “failure to maintain the training standards,” according to POST records.
