A woman was shot and killed by Walton County sheriff’s deputies Thursday after they responded to a domestic dispute, Channel 2 Action News reported.

About 10:30 a.m., deputies arrived at a home on Escoe Drive south of Loganville, the station reported. A woman with two guns reportedly was threatening her mother, who is in her 80s, as well as her grown son.

Two deputies ordered the woman to drop the guns, but she refused, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said. The woman, identified by the GBI as Rita King, 56, pointed one of the guns at the deputies, so they fired at her, striking her multiple times. She died from her injuries.

No deputies were injured.

It’s routine for the GBI to be involved in shootings involving police.
