Police arrested a man they say killed a 19-year-old and left his body in a Decatur motel last week, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Maurice Stargell was found with multiple gunshot wounds at the Candler Inn on Jan. 16, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Warrants allege Stargell and Calvin Joel Bartholomew, 29, met at the hotel for a drug deal, which led to an attempted robbery, DeKalb sheriff’s spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said in a statement. Bartholomew pulled a gun and fatally shot Stargell, Williams said.

A witness told police he then saw Stargell being dragged out of a room and put on the ground.

Atlanta police arrested Bartholomew at an apartment complex.
