A man wanted on a murder charge out of DeKalb County was arrested about 80 miles away in northwest Georgia, authorities said.
Frankie Lemaine Thompson, 30, of Lithonia, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at a RaceTrac near I-75 in Calhoun, the Gordon County Sheriff's Office told the Calhoun Times. A tip from the DeKalb sheriff's office helped lead to the arrest.
Thompson was working for a landscaping company near the gas station when he was taken into custody, the newspaper reported.
According to a DeKalb County police incident report obtained by AJC.com, Thompson is accused of killing Ricky Wells near Stone Mountain last month.
About 10:45 p.m. April 13, the men got into a fight in Wells’ apartment in the 600 block of Abberley Way, police said. Wells was intoxicated at the time of the altercation, according to the report. His sister told police she saw the fight between Wells and Thompson. She said Thompson got on top of her brother and repeatedly hit him in the head with a closed fist.
“After the altercation, the victim went to sleep,” police said in the report.
Wells’ sister did not hear from him until April 15, when he called and told her he was bleeding out of his ears and was beginning to lose his sight. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital at 9 a.m. that day, and his condition deteriorated. Wells was placed on life support after becoming unresponsive, police said in the report. The report does not indicate when he died.
Thompson was booked into the Gordon County jail, where he’s awaiting extradition to DeKalb.
