DeKalb man sought in Athens shooting death; $1K reward offered

Police are looking for a DeKalb County man who has been charged in connection with a shooting death in Athens last Friday.

Philmon D. Chambers, 30, of Decatur, is charged with malice murder in the death of 32-year-old Rodriguez Rucker, Athens-Clarke County police spokesman Geoffrey Gilland said Tuesday in a news release.

Detectives also said a 1995 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck registered in DeKalb (tag RQA5585) is believed to be involved in the shooting.

Rucker was found dead from a gunshot wound near a home on Royal Court about 3:20 p.m., police said.

Witnesses told police a 1990s-era Chevrolet pickup truck with silver or gray rims was seen leaving the scene around the time of the shooting, according to an earlier news release.
