A former DeKalb County jailer was fired after allegations of felony misconduct led to his arrest, police said Friday.

Malik Landers, 21, of Decatur, was arrested Thursday when he reported to work, DeKalb sheriff’s spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said.

Landers, who had been a detention officer for one year, allegedly gave an inmate a cellphone, violating his oath of office.

“The detention officer’s job requires dedication to the oath above all, including the promise of personal gain, because we are responsible for insuring the safety and security of the entire inmate population as well as other employees and the public,” DeKalb Sheriff Jeff Mann said.
