DeKalb County police are investigating their first homicide of 2020 after a possible domestic dispute over the weekend.

Officers responded to a home off Lynda Place in the Candler-McAfee neighborhood to find a man with a gunshot wound about 7 p.m. Sunday, police said. The man, identified as 31-year-old Damon Vickers, died at a hospital.

Aside from calling the incident a possible domestic dispute, no other information on the shooting or what led up to it has been released. Police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said detectives have “strong leads,” but no suspects are in custody.

In 2019, the police department responded to 125 homicides, including 13 that were deemed “justified,” Vincent said. It was the most homicide investigations the department has ever opened in a single year.
