The death of an Augusta inmate is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Eddie Gosier died Saturday night after an altercation at Augusta State Medical Prison, the DOC said. Gosier was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive.

Gosier was serving a 20-year sentence following a 2012 conviction for child molestation in Brooks County.
The GBI is assisting with the investigation into Gosier’s death, the DOC said. No other details about the incident were released.
