A man was charged with robbery and aggravated assault after Gwinnett County authorities said he was part of a crime caught on surveillance video.

Kris Morand, 22, appeared in court Wednesday afternoon, Channel 2 Action News reported. Police said he and another man walked out of the woods near an apartment complex, jumped two men and shot one of them in the leg.

Pablo Cruz was one of the victims of the alleged attack. He told Channel 2 that when they shot his friend, he thought they would kill both of them.

“My first thought when I saw the gun was, ‘I’m a dead man,’” he told the news station through a Spanish translator.

Cruz showed Channel 2 the wounds around his eye, lips and head.

“When they punched me, I believed they would kill me because both of them had a weapon,” he said.

In the video, the two men are shown hitting and kicking Cruz several times before one of them shoots Cruz’s friend in the leg. Both continue to beat the men for a little while, then run off.

Cruz told Channel 2 the men took several hundred American dollars, some pesos and his identification.

“Thank God they only hit me and they didn't shoot me,” Cruz said.

Police told Channel 2 they are still looking for the alleged gunman.
