A wrong-way driver on I-85 in Jackson County hit another vehicle, killing both drivers early Wednesday, authorities said.

Carlos Cobb, 32, of Gainesville, was driving his 2005 Ford Mustang southbound in the northbound lanes around 2:40 a.m. when he collided head-on with a 2006 Honda Civic near the Plainview Road bridge, the Georgia State Patrol told AJC.com.

Cobb and the driver of the Honda, who was later identified as 40-year-old Eugene Lafontant of Lawrenceville, were both pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

It’s unknown why Cobb was driving the wrong way on the interstate, the GSP said.
