A former Cobb County day care worker who allegedly body-slammed a 16-month-old is out of jail on $40,000 bond.

But the father of the child is not happy about the development, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Smyrna police said 20-year-old Jonee Hamilton assaulted the child at Oxford Babies in November. She is charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit murder.

“There was a little laceration on the inside of her mouth, and there was blood on her shirt,” Meredith Holt of Smyrna police said of the injured child Friday during a hearing.

Holt said Hamilton, who was fired after the alleged incident, became impatient when the child wouldn’t go down for a nap, and she repeatedly pushed her head into a mat.

Holt said, referring to a video of the alleged incident, “And then the third time, Miss Hamilton forcefully pushes (the) child's head into the mat. ... You can see her pick her head up off the mat and body-slam her back down on the mat.

“You can see the child go limp for a couple of seconds. ... You can see blood coming out of her mouth.”

Defense attorney Vin Fisher questioned the charge against his client.

“It's pretty clear this was not an attempt to commit murder,” he said.

Hamilton was released from Cobb County Jail Friday afternoon. A condition of the bond is that Hamilton must stay away from children.

At the bond hearing, a prosecutor read a letter from the child’s father asking the judge not to grant bond.

“She has taken so much from us,” Deputy District Attorney Charles Boring said, “and we feel strongly she is not fit or safe to be part of society.”
