Dawson County authorities were investigating a probable murder-suicide inside a local home Wednesday afternoon.

Dawson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Johnny Holtzclaw said 911 dispatchers received a call around 1:15 p.m. from someone inside a home on the 200 block of Maple Hill Drive in Dawsonville. The caller described “a dispute involving a weapon,” Holtzclaw said.

Deputies arrived at the home “a very short time later” to find a man and a woman dead inside.

Authorities said the couple was believed to be boyfriend and girlfriend but did not immediately release their identities. The man was believed to be in his 40s and the female in her 20s, Holtzclaw said.

It was unclear who may have shot whom.

“We’re still a little early in that part of the investigation,” Holtzclaw said, adding that he did not know whether the man or woman called 911.

No further information was immediately available.
