Newton County authorities are investigating the shooting deaths of a husband and wife whose bodies were found Tuesday night.

About 7:12 p.m., deputies responded to a person shot call in the 11600 block of Ga. 142 North, Sgt. Michael Cunningham said.

Deputies found a 72-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman had been shot, Cunningham said. The coroner pronounced them dead at the scene.

Preliminary indications are that the incident is an apparent murder-suicide, Cunningham said. The exact cause and manner of death are unknown.
