The “suspicious device” that prompted the GBI bomb squad to respond to an Alpharetta home Wednesday was a large cherry bomb, police told Channel 2 Action News.

The incident actually started Tuesday night when neighbors thought they heard an explosion and called officers, police told Channel 2. The Alpharetta fire department responded and determined it was fireworks.

Authorities returned to the area Wednesday morning after a homeowner found a large “coconut-sized” device on his lawn in the 1500 block of Rucker Road, police said. The GBI bomb squad determined that was the cherry bomb.

Rucker Road was closed between Wills Road and Greenmont Walk and Brisbane Drive while officers investigated.
