Gwinnett County police said the suspect who broke into a Stone Mountain QuikTrip and robbed it might be a former employee.

Investigators are still trying to track down the man, who took off running from the gas station after the incident.

The robbery happened about 3 a.m. Dec. 27 at the QuikTrip in the 5000 block of Stone Mountain Highway, according to Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Kathleen Adams.

The man, who was wearing a black beanie, a black jacket and khakis, went inside the store and lingered for about 20 minutes, she said. He then crawled under a security door, a Gwinnett incident report said.

Surveillance footage captured the man approaching a safe behind the security door, the police report said. The man is seen taking $100 worth of $20 bills and then clearing out the rest of the cash drawer.

In total, he took nearly $150, a store manager told police.

A manager told investigators he believes the suspect was either an employee at another QuikTrip store or an ex-employee of the gas station “based on his knowledge of how to operate the safe and cash register,” the incident report said.

The manager also said he believed the khakis the suspect was wearing were part of the uniform given to QuikTrip employees.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gwinnett detectives at 770-513-5300.
