A 17-year-old faces child cruelty charges after Roswell police said he let a child wander into a street while he slept in an apartment.

The 2-year-old was found by officers in the 420 block of Ashley Forrest Drive and brought back to the apartment, where officers found two other children — a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old  — inside unattended, Roswell police said. The children’s babysitter, David Solano, was found asleep.

“The apartment was in disarray ... deplorable conditions,” Roswell police officer Lisa Holland said.

Authorities charged Solano with one count of child cruelty in the second degree. He is out of jail on a $5,000 bond.

Solano’s mother told Channel 2 Action News she thought the arrest was unnecessary. Another relative usually babysits the kids, she said, but that person was unavailable.
