Two men are in jail after police in Marietta said they robbed a pawn shop at gunpoint, hopped in a car and sped away.

Nicholas Arthur Swaby and Michael Bernard Mackey each face felony charges in connection with the incident, which started just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to Marietta police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy.

Police were sent to the Cash America Pawn shop on Cobb Parkway after a call came in that two men were inside the business with weapons, McPhilamy said.

Police said Mackey forced employees into a back room while he and Swaby robbed the store, Channel 2 Action News reported. Customers weren’t allowed to leave, either, the news station reported.

“They were pushed into a closet,” McPhilamy told Channel 2. “They were held there with a gun.”

According to an arrest warrant, Mackey broke into a glass counter and stole multiple rings and bracelets, the news station reported.

When officers arrived, the armed men had already gotten into a white Crown Victoria and started driving away.

Within minutes, an officer got a description of the men and the car. A Cobb County police officer spotted the car on I-285 southbound near Paces Ferry Road just before 4:30 p.m., and Swaby and Mackey were arrested soon after.

Swaby, 25, is charged with attempted armed robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault with intent to rob and false imprisonment. Mackey, 45, is charged with armed robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault with intent to rob, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a felon and false imprisonment.

Both are being held in the Cobb County jail.
