A Marietta man was arrested after police said he tried to rob a Mableton gas station with a machete before being thwarted by the cashier's window.

Derrick Girard Coleman has been in Cobb County Jail since Monday without bond on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault and damaging property.

Coleman walked into the Citgo at 832 Clay Road about 11:20 p.m. Sunday with a brown mask on, according to a Cobb police warrant. He ordered the cashier to give him money from the register.

When she said no, he lifted up his shirt pulled out a rusty, yellow machete from his waistband, put it in the window opening and kept demanding the money, the warrant said.

Then he broke the alarm sensor and started beating on the window and damaged the door handle with the machete trying to get to the protected register.

When that didn't work, he ditched the machete in the frozen section of the store and left.

He was arrested about 20 minutes later.
