A Marietta man with a history of being disruptive was arrested after threatening to “shoot people” in the Municipal Court building in Marietta, police said.
Phillip James Collins, 40, tried to enter the building about 12:40 p.m. Thursday with a backpack and was “argumentative” about allowing the bag to be scanned or inspected, police spokesman Charles McPhilamy said.
Bailiffs denied Collins access, and he then went into the lobby restroom nearby.
“A witness stated that he observed Collins standing in the restroom, holding a handgun and talking to himself about shooting people,” McPhilamy said. “Collins exited the restroom and made threatening gestures and statements to the bailiffs before leaving the building.”
Collins was found walking about half a mile from police headquarters and was taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with making terroristic threats and booked into the Cobb County jail.
A gun was not found, police said.
