A 43-year-old man found dead behind a southeast Atlanta trailer park Wednesday afternoon was shot in the face and wrapped in a blanket, police said.

The body was discovered about 3:30 p.m. after officers were dispatched to a “person down” call in the 2500 block of Jonesboro Road, Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer TaSheen Brown said.

A man called police after finding the body near a woodline behind the Colony South Mobile Home Park, authorities said.

“Upon further investigation, officers located a deceased male who appeared to have sustained trauma to his face,” Brown said.

The man was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as Santos A. Rivera Cruz.

His death was ruled a homicide after investigators determined the man’s injuries were consistent with “possible gunshot wounds,” according to a police report released Thursday.

“Upon initial examination by the Fulton County medical examiner, multiple gunshot wounds were located to the male’s torso, face and legs,” the report said.

The ME’s office was conducting an autopsy on Rivera-Cruz’s body Thursday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to call Atlanta police.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
