Police are investigating a domestic incident between a man, his aunt and his grandmother that ended with the man mending a gunshot wound.

He’s also the one who will face charges.

Just before 1:45 p.m. Thursday, officers went to a home off South Alvarado Terrace in southwest Atlanta, where a man had been shot in the leg, Atlanta police said. The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Investigators said the man assaulted his grandmother with a broom during the dispute, prompting his aunt to try to break up the attack. She accomplished her goal by shooting her nephew in the leg, police said.

Police have not released the charges the man will face, but they are pending. No one else will be charged in the incident.

The man remains in the hospital’s detention center, awaiting a trip to jail, according to police.

No other information was provided. The investigation is ongoing.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
