Just as an alleged serial burglar was about to commit his 25th crime, Atlanta police arrested him and two others Thursday in Buckhead.

Jalim Basheer Hamlett, 44, had been connected to 24 burglaries in the area at the time of his arrest, Atlanta police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy said.

Hamlett, Kareem El-Amin, 25, and Krystal Brown, 31, were arrested as they were attempting to burglarize a home on Northside Parkway in northwest Atlanta, according to police.

Espy said Hamlett had been using rental cars to commit the crimes.

“Due to the cooperation with a local rental car company, investigators were able to track the rental car that Hamlett was driving,” Espy said. “The car was tracked to a home on Northside Parkway.”

The trio were found with three masks, a crowbar, a license plate and other burglary tools, according to police.

Hamlett and El-Amin were charged with criminal attempt to burglary, criminal possession of burglary tools and conspiracy to commit burglary. Hamlett faces more than 20 additional charges for the other alleged burglaries.

Brown was arrested and charged with theft by taking. She also has a warrant from another county.

All three remained in the Fulton County jail Friday afternoon.
