A Jonesboro man faces several felonies after allegedly fleeing Cobb County police in a stolen SUV and crashing into an officer’s patrol car in the process.

Jaylen Deshawn Williams, 20, was arrested Friday after officers spotted him driving through Austell in a 2016 Jeep Patriot that was reported stolen out of Fulton County a earlier that day, records show.

According to Williams’ warrants, the officer spotted the SUV on South Gordon Road just before 12:20 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop. That’s when Williams allegedly sped off, striking the officer’s door as he drove away.

According to his warrant, the 20-year-old fled police on Riverside Parkway going more than 30 mph over the posted speed limit as he swerved off the roadway and even into the oncoming lanes.

At one point, Williams is accused of swerving toward another officer involved in the chase, forcing them into oncoming traffic to avoid a collision.

The chase came to an end when Williams wrecked the stolen SUV before getting out and running on foot, warrants allege. He was eventually captured and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, hit-and-run, theft by receiving stolen property, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault on an officer, Cobb jail records show. He remains held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Williams’ passenger, identified in warrants as 20-year-old Marcus Bridges of McDonough, was charged with one misdemeanor count of obstruction for allegedly running from police after the crash.
