Gunshots are normally not part of the closing routine at Ross Dress for Less in Johns Creek.

But that’s what employees at the store on Medlock Bridge Road got Oct. 27, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“The dude just shot the door open,” a caller to 911 said. “Can you please send the police?”

The gunman made off with about $4,000 in less than a minute, police said.

"Once inside, (he) confronted an employee that had some of the money from the deposit and demanded that she drop the bags, and he grabbed the bags and fled,” Johns Creek police Capt. Chris Byers said. “So fortunate nobody was hurt with the bullets, with the flying glass or anything like that.”

A similar incident happened at a Ross store in Gainesville, and police wonder if they are connected.

“To me the way he entered the store ramps it up from just a robbery,” Byers said. “When you're firing off the rounds like that recklessly, it does ramp it up.”
