A barrage of gunfire narrowly missed hitting a child who was inside a car during an armed robbery in Marietta, authorities said.

The incident happened Sept. 10 in the 1700 block of Austell Road after Javohnte Rashaud Edwards, 20, arranged to meet the child’s father to buy a gun, according to a Cobb County warrant.

Edwards approached the driver’s side of the car and spoke to Stanley Pierre and his girlfriend Nakesha Marion, the warrant states.

At least one other person then approached the car. They pulled out guns, according to the warrant, and Edwards took the pistol that was for sale from Pierre’s lap.

At that point, the suspects began to fire at the car. Pierre was hit three times, causing the loss of his kidney and part of his liver, the warrant states.

Pierre’s girlfriend and child were not injured.

Edwards fled the scene but was spotted two days later by police, who tried to arrest him before he ran away, according to the warrant. He was captured the same day and is being held without bond, Cobb County jail records show.

He faces three felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count of aggravated battery, one felony count of armed robbery and a misdemeanor count of third-degree cruelty to children.
