A Columbus police officer faces several charges after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident, abandoning her damaged car and reporting it as stolen last week, according to multiple media reports.

An abandoned vehicle was found just before 12:15 a.m. on Aug. 9, news station WTVM reported. Nicole Natasha Reeves, 27, allegedly reported her vehicle as stolen 21 minutes later.

Police later determined the abandoned vehicle belonged to Reeves, and that she was driving it at the time of the wreck, the department confirmed to AJC.com. Investigators also determined the officer made false statements about her vehicle being stolen, police said.

Reeves was arrested on charges of violation of oath of office by a public officer, false statements, false report of a crime, and duty to report a vehicle accident, WTVM reported. She has been placed on administrative leave without pay, the department said.

It’s unclear what caused the crash or where it took place.

Reeves was hired by the department in April 2015 and voluntarily resigned four months later, according to Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council records. She returned to the Columbus Police Department in April 2016 and has worked there since.

She has no prior disciplinary history in her POST file, records show.
