An Austell man faces nearly a dozen charges after allegedly kidnapping and strangling a woman before leading police on a chase and crashing into two cars, authorities said.

Jacob Allen Burgess, 27, was only stopped after a police office used a Taser on him after the crash Wednesday, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Burgess knew the woman he allegedly kidnapped, Channel 2 reported, but their relationship to each other isn’t known. He’s accused of choking and dragging her outside of a home off Jefferson Street.

The woman then ran to a neighbor’s house and had her call 911 before Burgess allegedly kicked down the door.

“He ran after her,” neighbor Christian Lague told the news station. “She got barely in the door before she turned around and shut it and locked it. And he kicked it in and broke my door frame.”

Lague said Burgess continued to assault the woman until he eventually left and sped away in his pickup truck, Channel 2 reported.

Austell police spotted his vehicle on Veterans Memorial Highway, and he led them on a chase when they tried to pull him over, the news station reported.

“(He’s) somebody who is reckless and doesn’t care about anyone else. It’s sad,” Lague said.

Burgess ended up crashing into two cars, and a police officer used a Taser to stop him when he tried to run away, according to a police report obtained by Channel 2. An open bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey was found in his vehicle, police said.

He faces 11 charges, including four felonies, which are fleeing a police officer, first-degree burglary, kidnapping and aggravated assault, according to Cobb County Jail records. His other charges include family battery, open container, DUI and several traffic violations.

As of Friday night, he remained in jail without bond, according to jail records.
