An Ellenwood man accused of holding up a sporting goods store was arrested Tuesday afternoon while waiting to leave the scene in an Uber, police said.

Clayton County police arrested 21-year-old Dominic Lestagez on armed robbery charges after he allegedly robbed a Hibbett Sports in broad daylight.

Officers were dispatched to the store along Anvil Block Road about 2:30 p.m. After speaking with witnesses, it was determined a man wearing all black entered the store, pulled out a handgun and demanded cash from the register, investigators said Wednesday in a news release.

He then took took about $900, left the store and ran toward some woods near Bouldercrest Road, police said.

An officer spotted a man matching the suspect’s description and arrested him. Police said Lestagez, who summoned an Uber to leave the scene, flagged down the ride-share driver when the officer noticed him.

Lestagez was arrested and officers recovered $900 in cash as well as the firearm investigators believe was brandished during the robbery.

He was charged with one count each of armed robbery, aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and theft by receiving stolen property. Lestagez remains held at the Clayton County Jail without bond, records show.
