Last outstanding murder suspect from Clayton County arrested in Louisiana

A man wanted out of Clayton County on murder charges in connection with the shooting death of his son’s mother was arrested in Louisiana, authorities said.

Anthony Mickel had active warrants for murder with malice and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday his arrest means all fugitives with outstanding murder warrants from the county are in custody.

He's accused of shooting his son's mother, who was from Forest Park, in the head on June 24, 2017, after a physical altercation, AJC.com previously reported. She was placed on life support at at a local hospital before dying six days later, the sheriff's office said.

Mickel was arrested by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in Gretna, La., the sheriff’s office said. Deputies responded to a report of several men gambling in the laundry room of an apartment complex, and at least one handgun was seen by authorities.

Two men ran from the laundry room, and the deputies arrested Mickel after a brief chase, the sheriff’s office said. He allegedly stashed a handgun near a vehicle during the chase. It’s unknown whether the other man was taken into custody.

Mickel was searched, and two clear plastic bags of marijuana were found on him, the sheriff’s office said. In addition to his Clayton County charges, he faces charges of possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule IV narcotic out of Louisiana.

Mickel is awaiting to be extradited to Clayton County for his charges, the sheriff’s office said.
