Clayton corrections officer allegedly hit handcuffed inmate; now he’s in jail

A Clayton County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer was fired and arrested after allegedly striking a handcuffed inmate, authorities said Friday.

Rufus Lee Webb Jr. faces charges of battery and violation of oath by a public officer, according to Clayton County Jail records.

A news release by the sheriff’s office said: “This conduct violates the core values of the Sheriff’s Office.”

No other information was released.

Webb remains in the Clayton County Jail without bond, records show.
