A DeKalb County woman is holding her grandchildren tighter after celebratory New Year’s Eve gunfire missed them by inches.

Alicia Emoima told Channel 2 Action News the gunfire “was all over the table and the couch.”

Emoima was inside her Decatur apartment with her five grandkids when the gunfire went off across the street Monday morning.

She said she kept the children in a back room as bullets pierced her walls.

“I (can) see popping fireworks,” Emoima’s daughter, who asked not to be identified, told Channel 2, “but (not) guns, especially as long as they were doing it and as close as they were. They were not thinking of anyone else.”

No arrests have been made in the shooting.
