A Carrollton Elementary School paraprofessional was arrested Monday after allegedly viewing pornographic images of minors, authorities said.

Randy Lynn Weems, 70, who worked part-time as a tutor at the school, faces six counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of criminal attempt, Carrollton police Detective Blake Hitchcock said.

Weems was arrested after investigators determined he accessed images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, Hitchcock said. Police were alerted to the photos by the GBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit.

Weems resigned from his position at the school after his arrest, said Julianne Foster, communications director for the Carrollton City School District.

He remains held at the Carroll County jail without bond, records show.
