A caregiver is accused of hitting an 83-year-old woman in her care several times, Chamblee police said.

A second caregiver who witnessed the alleged abuse called police to the UniHealth Post Acute Care home around 8 a.m. Wednesday, Chief Donny Williams said in an emailed statement. According to the witness, whose name was not released, Domita Jo Bailey struck a woman in the home several times, Williams said.

Bailey and the witness were both interviewed, according to police. Officers then arrested Bailey, 52, of Atlanta, and charged her with one felony count of elder abuse and simple battery, Williams said.

Bailey was booked into the DeKalb County jail, where she was being held Wednesday night while awaiting her first court appearance.

The elderly woman did not have serious injuries, Williams said.
