Two people were taken to the hospital after a wrong-way driver crashed head-on into another vehicle Thursday afternoon in DeKalb County, police said.

About 2:30 p.m., a man was driving a gold Chevrolet in the wrong direction on Memorial Drive over I-285 when he crashed into the car, DeKalb police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell said.

“The vehicle that the male was driving overturned and caught fire,” she said.

When deputies responded, they had to pull their weapons because the man was acting erratically and was believed to be under the influence of an unknown drug, Lt. Lonzy Robertson said. They pulled him out of the burning car and had to use their Tasers to take him into custody.

The man was identified as Dontavious Davis, 28. He has been charged with driving on the wrong side of the road, theft by receiving (firearm) and obstruction.

The female driver and daughter in the other vehicle were taken to a hospital in stable condition.
