Cherokee County authorities said car burglars stole from more than 20 vehicles that were left unlocked in an Acworth neighborhood.

The burglaries happened at the Centennial Lakes subdivision off Ga. 92, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Deputies told the news station three to four young men went from home to home in the middle of the night Saturday and entered cars they found unlocked. A total of 21 cars were entered, Cherokee County sheriff’s spokesman Jay Baker said.

Baker told Channel 2 the men cleaned out anything they found of value in the cars. The burglars stole cash, keys and a 9mm handgun, he said.

Ken Hanie, a watch collector and dealer, told Channel 2 the burglars entered his truck and made off with numerous cases of watches. Hanie said he had to leave his regular job due to a disability and buys and sells watches to bring in extra money.

“They took all five cases, 63 watches,” he said. He estimates the stolen watches were worth about $5,000 combined.

The sheriff’s office said it has investigated several car burglaries in recent months, many of which wouldn’t have happened if the victims had locked their doors.
