A Sandy Springs father’s first instinct when a burglar pulled a gun on him was to shield his 16-month-old daughter, police said.

Authorities are searching for the man they say pulled a gun on the victim after he witnessed the suspect attempting to break into a home earlier this month.

The victim, who was not named, was walking with his daughter on his shoulders Nov. 5 near The Mosaic at Sandy Springs apartments when he spotted the man attempting to take the screen off an apartment, according to a Sandy Springs police report.

The man shouted, “What are you doing?” at the suspect, who walked away from the window and behind the building “as if nothing happened,” the report stated.

Police said the burglar then turned around and pointed a dark handgun at the man and his daughter.

The victim shielded his daughter, then dropped her off inside their apartment and continued to follow and observe the suspect from a safe distance, police said.

The suspect was later spotted jumping a balcony and entering a sliding glass door, according to the report. By the time police arrived, the suspect had left through the front door.

Police described the man as between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot with short, dark and wavy hair. Anyone with information is asked to call Sandy Springs police.
