A 23-year-old woman died after being found with a gunshot wound about 4:30 p.m. Friday in a South Fulton home, authorities said.
Officers were called to a house in the 2270 block of Creel Road, which is where they found the injured woman, South Fulton police Sgt. Jubal Rogers said. Channel 2 Action News reported that she had been shot in the neck.
Police previously said the victim was 16 years old, but officers confirmed just after 6 p.m. that the woman is 23. She later died at the hospital, Rogers confirmed.
A male juvenile suspect turned himself into police, and he was charged with murder, Rogers said. The suspect’s name has not been released. Additional charges are also pending. The gun believed to be used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.
A woman who was in the house at the time of the shooting told Channel 2 she dropped off her 16-year-old son at the police department when they asked to question him. The woman, who asked not to be identified, said her son told her the gun accidentally went off.
Police have not confirmed if the woman’s son is the suspect who has been charged, the news station reported.
“There were adults and teens in the house,” Rogers told Channel 2. “We’re not sure if there was some kind of party going on.”
