A 19-year-old has been charged with murder after a man was found in a pool of blood at a DeKalb County apartment complex.

Kalijuan Hawkins was arrested Friday in connection with the death of 39-year-old Spencer Lavest Foster, Dunwoody police spokesman Sgt. Robert Parsons said Monday in a news release.

Foster’s body was discovered shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday by his sister and her friend at the Dunwoody Village Apartment Homes off Dunwoody Crossing, AJC.com previously reported.

Foster’s body was found partially inside the kitchen, lying in a pool of blood, according to a police report. His blood also covered the entire front wall of the apartment and spattered onto the ceiling, investigators wrote.

“Throughout the rest of the apartment was blood on the floor and walls,” the report said. “Items inside were broken and thrown about.”

A paramedic at the scene told officers he believed Foster had been shot, according to the report, though an exact cause of death won’t be released until his autopsy is complete, police said.

Foster’s sister told police she last saw her brother Monday, two days before finding him dead. When she arrived at the apartment, the front door was shut but not locked. She called 911 after opening the door and seeing the blood inside.

It is not clear what led to Foster’s death or how police connected Hawkins to the case. Hawkins was booked into the DeKalb County Jail, where he remains with no bond. In addition to felony murder, he is charged with criminal trespass.
