Homicide detectives opened two investigations after two deadly shootings in Atlanta on Friday night.
The first occurred about 6:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Cleveland Avenue in southwest Atlanta, police spokeswoman TaSheena Brown said.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of a 33-year-old woman who had been shot in the head, authorities said.
She was identified Saturday as Kyria Baker.
Investigators at the scene said they hoped surveillance footage from a nearby restaurant would help them identify the suspect and determine a motive in the woman’s death.
"We have some theories on what occurred, and we have some evidence and leads we're following up on," Atlanta Police Major Dan Rasmussen told Channel 2 Action News.
The second fatal shooting occurred about 8:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Harwell Road in northwest Atlanta, Brown said. A 32-year-old man who was shot in the head died after being rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital.
He was identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office as Derek Ward.
No other information was released on the shootings , which Brown said were “completely separate” and not connected.
