Quinton Keyvon Martin, 16, was shot and killed early Thursday after returning home from his shift at a Newton County Zaxby’s.

A Newton County teenager was killed in a drive-by shooting late Wednesday after he returned home from his shift at a local Zaxby’s, authorities said.

His father told Channel 2 Action News that 16-year-old Quinton Keyvon Martin got a ride home from his manager. They had just pulled onto Greenway Drive when both were shot.

Martin was pronounced dead at an area hospital, Newton County sheriff’s deputy Michael Gregg said. His boss, who was not identified, is at an Atlanta hospital being treated for her wounds.

“He was just a good kid,” Martin’s father, Roddrick Foster, told Channel 2.

Martin was an honor student at Alcovy High School who took the job at Zaxby’s to save enough money to buy his own car, the news station reported. Foster said his son was excited about getting into the DECA career club at his high school, and he had recently returned from a retreat. He had dreams of becoming a pilot.

Foster believes his son was not the intended target of the gunfire.

The sheriff’s office is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call 404-575-TIPS or Cpl. Wade Freeman at 678-625-1445.
