Police used a Taser on a man to end a SWAT situation that lasted several hours Thursday in southwest Atlanta, a spokesman said.

About 9 a.m., police got a 911 call about a barricaded gunman, Atlanta police spokesman Donald Hannah said in a statement. The caller said a family member was having a “mental health crisis” and said he was armed and threatening to harm his family and himself.

Police sent SWAT officers and hostage negotiators to the address in the 300 block of Saint Johns Avenue, Hannah said.

In midafternoon, SWAT officers moved in after several hours of negotiations went nowhere.

“As officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he resisted and (a Taser was used) before being secured,” Hannah said.

The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. His identity was not released.

No charges have been filed.
