Three men were arrested Wednesday after they led police on a chase in a stolen car before crashing, DeKalb County police said.

Officers initially thought they were chasing suspects involved in an armed robbery, DeKalb police Lt. Lonzy Robertson said.

Police ultimately learned that wasn’t the case. Before authorities made that determination, Robertson said the suspects led police on a chase, hit an officer’s car and crashed on I-285 near Moreland Avenue.

The trio ran from the scene, but police captured two of them immediately.

Police dogs caught a third suspect a short time later. That suspect had a self-inflicted injury, but officials have not offered specifics.

The three men, who have not been named, were charged with theft by receiving a stolen vehicle and obstruction. One of the suspects also faces a charge of felony obstruction for hitting the officer’s car.
