A small plane crashed in a wooded area near Newborn on Monday afternoon, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.

The Cessna 172 aircraft crashed about 3 p.m., spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen told AJC.com. Only the pilot was on board, but that person’s condition is not known.

While Newborn is in Newton County, the crash took place across the Jasper-Newton county line. The specific location of the crash has not been provided.

The FAA is investigating, with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and National Transportation Safety Board assisting. The NTSB will determine what caused the crash.
